Celebrex, known as COX-2 selective inhibitor, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute pain. It works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, inflammation, and swelling. Celebrex is prescribed for short-term use to manage acute pain or inflammation. It may also be used in the management of mild to moderate pain, including minor aches and pains, due to the common cold, flu, sore throat, menstrual cramps, lower back pain, or minor injuries such as sprains and strains. It is important to follow the recommended dosages of Celebrex and tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medications. Do not take more or less of this medicine than your doctor has told you to. Take Celebrex with or without food, as long as your doctor tells you to do so. If you are taking the extended-release capsule (EREC) take it as soon as you can, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the dose that you missed and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take the EREC if you are also taking a low-dose (oral) NSAID like ibuprofen or naproxen. Take Celebrex with a high-fat meal to help reduce stomach upset. Do not take the lowest dose of Celebrex that has been prescribed for you. If you are taking the oral NSAID for pain and inflammation, you will need to take the oral NSAID several times a day for this reason. The oral NSAIDs include indomethacin (Indocin), indomethacin-dextrin (Midamor), and naproxen-dextrin (Pfizer Inc., New York, NY). Follow your doctor's instructions about how many to take each day, and give each dose at evenly spaced intervals. This can help you remember to take Celebrex at the same time every day. Do not miss any doses. If you miss a dose of Celebrex, take it as soon as you can, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Use the time to remember to take Celebrex every day. Remember that you have not taken all of the medicine prescribed to you, even though you have taken it. If you take more medicine than prescribed, talk to your doctor about the best dose for you. This may also help you remember to take Celebrex at the same time every day.

Celebrex capsules can be taken with or without food. However, it is important to follow the instructions and directions on the label of the medication carefully. Do not take the capsules with a high-fat meal. Take the capsules 1-3 hours before or 2 hours after taking a dose of Celebrex, even if you are taking the medication for pain or inflammation. Take the capsules with a high-fat meal, as long as your doctor tells you to do so. If you take the capsule with a high-fat meal, skip the dose that you missed and go back to your regular dosing schedule. You may take them with or without food. If you are taking the Celebrex EREC-based extended-release capsule (EREC) capsules, you may take it in the morning, as long as you have a high-fat meal. Do not take the EREC-based extended-release capsule (EREC) capsules more than once daily.
